Innovations in Periodontal Treatments

Posted on 8/22/2022 by Todd Jorgenson
Innovations in Periodontal TreatmentsThe dental office often uses periodontal treatments to prevent tooth loss due to advanced gum disease. These popular treatments regenerate the teeth and gums, which could be affected by periodontal diseases or any other condition that causes inflammation and damages the surrounding tissues. Fortunately, these treatments are seen to be constantly developing and progressing. The treatment entails three basic steps — cleaning, pocket reduction, and soft tissue therapy. Here are some remarkable innovations in periodontal treatments:

Laser Therapy

This is the most recent innovation, and it involves using laser light to treat gum disease. It has been proven to be effective in treating periodontal disease, as well as other conditions like gingivitis and plaque. The procedure involves cleaning the teeth first, then using a laser to destroy any bacteria that may be present. The result is that your gums will look healthier and feel smoother. Laser therapy can help prevent the need for surgery in the future when used in conjunction with medication for periodontal disease.

Surgical Removal of Tissue

This is one of the most common treatments for periodontitis and involves removing infected tissue from around your teeth, which can sometimes lead to tooth loss if left untreated. In addition to removing infected tissue, this procedure will help prevent future problems by reducing inflammation around your gums and teeth. In some cases, surgical removal of the tissue may not be necessary but instead treated with medication or antibiotics.

Saving Teeth with Dental Implants

Dental implants are becoming more common because they're effective at saving teeth that would otherwise be lost due to gum disease or tooth decay. The implants replace missing teeth by anchoring artificial crowns into your jawbone, so they look and feel like natural teeth.

Invisalign

Generally, Invisalign is an orthodontic procedure that utilizes a clear removable aligner to straighten teeth. It can be used to treat both adults and children alike, but it is especially beneficial for adults who want to improve the appearance of their smile without having visible metal braces.
