Young Adults Often Ignore Gum Disease Symptoms Thinking They Do Not Have It |
Posted on 9/21/2021 by Todd Jorgenson |
Gum disease is an infection in the or around the tissues that hold your teeth in place, mostly associated with the gum line. Gum disease is caused by bacteria, plaque, or tartar left in the teeth or around the gum line without the proper maintenance or preventative care. There are symptoms of gum disease that can resemble common occurrences and may not seem serious to younger adults.
Symptoms of Gum Disease
Symptoms of gum disease can resemble less harmful events. Bad breath is a common sign of gum disease; however, it is true that bad breath may exist without gum disease being present and can go unnoticed. Red or swollen gums are another symptoms that may go unnoticed or may not be taken seriously. Bleeding gums can happen on occasion by brushing too hard or for other reasons, but it is also associated with gum disease and should be taken seriously if it happens frequently. Other symptoms of gum disease include painful chewing, loose teeth, sensitive teeth, or receding gums. Young adults may not take these symptoms seriously in lieu of other body changes.
Gum Disease Prevention
Frequent oral healthcare and maintenance are required in order to keep and healthy mouth and smile. It is true that younger adults tend to ignore signs, symptoms, and recommendations for oral and body healthcare. It is important to schedule regular appointments to make sure that the mouth and teeth are healthy. Even after symptoms have developed, it is possible to prevent further implications of gum disease by a deep cleaning.
