How Water Can Help You During Your Gum Disease Recovery

Posted on 8/9/2021 by Todd Jorgenson
How Water Can Help You During Your Gum Disease RecoveryThe process of treating gum disease takes time. However, when you visit our offices for treatment and maintain good dental hygiene, the process is easier due to the procedures we use and the advice you will receive from our professionals. One of the things we recommend during your recovery process is to drink plenty of water. This is because water is very important in the fight against gum disease.

Importance of Water

Water is very important in your fight against gum disease. It helps hydrate your mouth and rinse away any debris in an effective manner. Water is more effective at doing this because it is less acidic compared to other beverages; therefore, helping you overcome gum disease more efficiently. It is recommended that you drink eight glasses of water daily, especially when you are recovering from gum disease. If haven't been drinking enough water, increase your intake during this time.

You can also use water to rinse your mouth more regularly. This will help keep your mouth tissues hydrated compared to other beverages. Rinse your mouth with water to get rid of debris just after eating and before you can brush safely. If you fail to remove the debris, bacteria will feed on it and build up to form plaque. This will worsen the condition, leading to further development of gum disease.

You should also drink water regularly. Regular drinking of water helps lower the acid levels in your mouth. High acidic conditions could cause damage to your mouth, especially the gums. Getting rid of acidic conditions in your mouth will go a long way in preventing gum disease. During this time, you should also avoid the consumption of acidic foods and beverages that could lead to corrosion; this includes drinks like sodas, artificial juices, and energy drinks. Contact our offices for more information on how water helps with gum disease.
