Can Lasers Improve Gum Health?

In some instances, lasers can be an effective method for improving gum health depending on a person's oral problems.
The most common problem solved with the use of laser technology is an advanced gum disease known as periodontitis. Sufferers of periodontitis experience the gum line receding towards the bottom of the teeth.
A receding gum line can cause lasting dental issues like tooth decay and gum deterioration because bacteria called plaque is more easily able to enter sensitive parts of the teeth and even the bloodstream. By treating the gums with lasers, we can help stop gum recession as well as restore tissue. Once the gum line is fixed, it can then be maintained properly promoting a healthier smile.
How Does Laser Treatment Work?We will first assess if you are eligible for laser treatment by looking at your teeth and the state of your gums. If we find you are eligible, we can schedule an appointment at a day and time that will work for you. On the day of the treatment, we will use the laser to clear and clean pockets of infection which are easily accessible with the use of laser.
After all the pockets of infection are cleaned, we will expose the root of the tooth and clean it of any deposits of plaque. From this point we can use the laser to warm the previous pockets of infection and promote growth of the gum over the root of the tooth.
By using lasers, we ensure that no gum tissue is removed from the mouth during the process. Laser treatment, compared to other methods, promotes growth of the gum while maintaining the still left making the healing process quicker. It is also minimally invasive to the patient, so we can limit the amount of sedation needed for the procedure.
If you have any more questions about laser gum treatment or are considering it, please gives us a call at the office. We would be happy to discuss more benefits of laser treatment or schedule a consultation appointment to see if laser treatment is right for you. |
