Many people seem to believe that it is somewhat normal to suffer from at least a slight degree of gum pain. Whether it's pain that you experience while brushing or flossing, or discomfort that seems to randomly occur, it is not normal to have pain or discomfort in your gums.
We hope that, by educating our patients on this vital topic, we can help encourage prompt treatment of potential periodontal issues.
Your Gum TissueThe gum tissue is a vital part of your mouth's functionality. Without healthy gum tissue, the teeth would be loose and eventually fall out. So, it makes sense to do everything within your power to keep the gum tissue healthy.
Normal gum tissue is a healthy pink, and is firm to the touch. What's more, it should stand up to everyday activities such as eating, brushing, and flossing without bleeding or causing pain. If your gum tissue bleeds or hurts when you clean your teeth, this could be a sign of serious periodontal issues.
Getting Help
Fortunately, the gum tissue is fairly resilient in terms of its ability to heal quickly and bounce back from injury and even gum disease. This means that, if you get help right away, you have a very good chance of making a full recovery in a relatively short amount of time.
When you come to us complaining of gum pain, we will first do a thorough inspection of your teeth and gums. We are looking for signs of injury or damage to both the soft tissue as well as the teeth themselves. Next, we will carefully screen your gum tissue for signs of periodontal issues.
We will quickly locate the source of the discomfort and move on to the treatment phase. In so doing, we are able to get your mouth happy and healthy again. So if you have gum pain, please, don't hesitate: come see us right away.
