What Benefits Come from Crown Lengthening?

Posted on 8/10/2018 by Todd Jorgenson
What Benefits Come from Crown Lengthening? If you are self-conscious about the way your teeth look and want to improve your smile, crown lengthening could be just what you've been looking for.

With new medical advances, this procedure can be done one treatment and help people with a gummy smile, where a small portion of your teeth is exposed, and the gum tissue seems excessive.

Even though your teeth are probably of a normal size, you may have excess gum tissue surrounding them, which will make them look smaller than they actually are.

What are the Benefits of Crown Lengthening?

Crown lengthening is usually a cosmetic surgery to lift the gums and expose more of the teeth. These are some of the advantages of having this procedure:

•  Increased self-confidence.
•  It requires only one treatment that lasts between 30 and 60-minutes.
•  No touch-ups are required.
•  Makes a smile more symmetrical.
•  Improves oral health.

How Does Crown Lengthening Work?

This procedure consists of adjusting the bone and gum level to the desired length, revealing more of the tooth or teeth. It can be done on one or all teeth. Crown lengthening can also be performed on patients with a broken tooth below the gum line.

If your tooth broke below or at the gum line after a blow to the face, it may need to be removed, but it can be saved with crown lengthening.

People with gummy smiles are usually conscious of how their teeth look and avoid showing their teeth. This can create confidence problems.

If you think you can benefit from crown lengthening, please make sure you discuss it with one of our periodontists. This can be a life-altering procedure that will result in a happier you with relatively low level of discomfort and minimal recovery time compared to other oral surgeries.
