The Importance of Flossing When You Need to Keep Gum Disease Away

Posted on 6/15/2018 by Todd Jorgenson
Flossing East Valley Implant & Periodontal Center AZ 85204When gum disease is a reality, it is important to think about the flossing and brushing that you do. You need to have good oral hygiene to stop gum disease in its tracks and be able to keep your mouth and gums as clean as they need to be.

With this being said, here are some benefits to flossing and reasons why it is so important to do so when trying to keep gum disease away.

Importance of Flossing

When plaque is allowed to build up around and in the gum line of the teeth, it can quickly lead to gum disease and other dental disorders. In order to reduce and minimize the chances of having gum disease or other problems happen, flossing is the recommended way to go. Flossing helps to remove trapped food particles and bacteria from in-between teeth.

Gum disease occurs when the tissue that holds your teeth in place become infected and inflamed. Gum disease can lead to sore gums, bleeding gums and pain when chewing foods. It is the result of poor brushing and flossing habits and can be remedied if caught in the early stages.

Having cleaner teeth, healthier, stronger gums and less cavities and discoloration all come from proper oral hygiene, which includes flossing. When flossing, it allows you to remove the buildup that a toothbrush is unable to reach. Gum disease is nothing to take lightly. It can lead to tooth loss, as well as other health concerns.

Not only does flossing help fight gum disease, it also helps give you fresher breath and whiter teeth. The process of flossing actually does two things. Not only does it remove the plaque and debris from your teeth, but it also helps to polish your teeth.

This helps provide you with a brighter, whiter, more natural smile. If you would like more information on gum disease and how flossing can help combat gum disease, please contact our office today! We're more than happy to help!
