Procedures You Can Have that May Help Regenerate Gum Tissue

Posted on 7/30/2017 by Todd Jorgenson
Regenerate gum tissue with the help of East Valley Implant & Periodontal Center.
If you have lost gum tissue—whether due to gum disease, trauma to the gum tissue itself, or even as a result of oral surgery—you may be wondering if there is anything you can do to help replace the lost tissue. Fortunately for you, today's technology has brought about a number of procedures that may be of use to you in your search for help. Here are a few procedures that can help you regenerate your lost gum tissue.

Allografts: utilizing donated tissue from human donors

One option is to graft in tissue that has been sourced from other people. This procedure is easier than other types of grafting because it does not require your dentist to harvest tissue from elsewhere in your mouth. To this end, allografts simplify the grafting process: donated tissue is sutured into your gum tissue, and your gum tissue grows into the donated tissue. The end result is a gum line that is higher and thicker than it was prior to your procedure.

Pedicle grafting: grafting using a less invasive procedure

If You have an adequate amount of gum tissue near the site where you need your tissue to be built up, your dentist can make a simple cut in the tissue, fold the flap over the area that needs to be replaced, and suture the flap in place. Your gum tissue will heal like that, and the result will be a stronger gum line.

Other types of grafts

Other grafting procedures involve removing soft tissue from somewhere else in your mouth (usually the roof of your mouth) and suturing it to the gum line where you want to build the tissue up. This is highly effective, but can be a little bit more painful than other options. If you have any questions, or if you would like to learn more, please call us today at (480) 376-2848.
