What to Do About Bleeding Gums

Posted on 10/15/2016 by Todd Jorgenson
A close up of a patients teeth suffering from gum disease.
When you brush your teeth and your gums begin to bleed, it can be a frightening situation. Many of our patients call us in a panic, wondering what is going on and what they can do. While you should certainly take it seriously when your gums are bleeding, the good news is that it is usually something that can be taken care of quickly and easily.

You Should See A Dentist Right Away

You should definitely make sure to rule out any serious causes. Remember, there could be any number of things that might cause your gums to bleed, some of them serious conditions that might require immediate attention. So come see us and let us take a look so we can rule out any serious issues.

It Might Be Gingivitis

The good news is that, most often, when your gums bleed a little bit it is the early stages of gingivitis. While gum disease is a serious matter, we consider this good news because when you catch it early you can usually reverse it simply by pursuing a regular regimen of brushing and flossing.

If you brush at least twice a day, floss every day, and come see us for regular cleanings, your gingivitis should reverse itself in a relatively short period of time. This means your gums will be fine and healthy again, and all you need to do in order to keep them that way is continue regularly brushing and flossing.

We know that bleeding gums can be a scary sight, and we want to help you get your smile back to its best shape as quickly as possible. Contact our office, and let us help you address the matter. We are here for you, and we look forward to working with you!
