Best Vitamins for Teeth and Gums

Posted on 2/2/2024 by Weo Admin
A Close up of woman smilingYou need a balanced diet to improve your health outlook. This also applies to healthy teeth and gums. Here is a selection of vitamins considered the best for teeth and gums.

Vitamin C

Your teeth and gums need a healthy dose of Vitamin C in the same way your entire body does. Vitamin C is known to provide support for the immune system, meaning that your teeth and gums will manage to fight off infections from bacteria and other germs. Vitamin C is also the best for healthy teeth and gums because it helps maintain the collagen proteins that form the jawbone, teeth, and gums. If you take enough Vitamin C, you are also less likely to experience mouth inflammation.

Vitamin D

You will also enjoy healthy teeth and gums when you take enough Vitamin D, often found in red meat, egg yolk, and oily fish. Vitamin D helps in tooth mineralization, without which you face the risk of developing gum disease. Vitamin D is also essential because it reduces inflammation and bleeding due to gum disease.

B Complex Vitamins

B vitamins, which include folate, are essential in combating periodontal disease and maintaining good gum health. A 2007 study of 844 adults indicated that low levels of folate significantly contributed to their development of periodontal disease. B vitamins are also necessary to prevent excessive bleeding from the gums during routine dental exams. If you do not get an adequate amount of B vitamins from your diet, you can take B complex supplements to improve the health of your teeth and gums.

Vitamin A

You also need vitamin A for healthy teeth and gums. You will find this type of vitamin in pumpkin, sweet potatoes, egg yolks, and carrots. If you do not take the correct amounts of Vitamin A in your diet, you are highly likely to have impaired tooth formation. Vitamin A deficiency also causes enamel hypoplasia and gum disease.

Like any part of our body, our teeth and gums depend on vitamins and minerals to function properly. Vitamins A, B-Complex, C, and D are considered the most essential in preventing periodontal and gum disease.
