Dental Bridge Mesa, AZ

Dental Bridges in Mesa & Scottsdale, AZYour teeth are a very important feature of your mouth that perform a variety of functions. Not only do they help you to chew your food, which aids in proper digestion (and therefore better overall heath), they help you to speak properly. On top of that, your teeth have an aesthetic function, providing you with a beautiful smile. When you lose teeth, no matter how many, all of these functions are affected. You may even find yourself hiding your smile out of self-consciousness. At East Valley Implant & Periodontal Center, Dr. Todd Jorgenson can help you to restore the practical and aesthetic functions of your missing teeth with dental bridges.

What is a bridge?

A bridge is a dental appliance that “bridges the gap” left behind by one or more (usually up to three) missing teeth in any one specific area of your mouth. The most common type of bridge is a fixed bridge. With this bridge, false teeth sit between two crowns, which anchor on to your surrounding teeth, also referred to as abutment teeth. A bridge is usually made out of ceramic, which can be made to perfectly match the rest of your natural teeth, creating a complete, beautiful smile.

Bridge Process

Getting your dental bridge is a fairly straightforward process that takes two visits. During your first visit, Dr. Todd Jorgenson will give you an oral exam, and take some X-rays. Next, your abutment teeth are prepared, a process that involves filing the teeth down so that the crowns will fit comfortably over them. An impression is taken and a color guide used to match the color of your natural teeth. The impression and the color information are sent to our lab, to create your perfect, custom bridge. It will take anywhere from one to two weeks for your bridge to be finished and sent back. While you wait, Dr. Todd Jorgenson will provide you with a temporary bridge to protect your abutment teeth.

When your bridge is ready, Dr. Todd Jorgenson will bring you back into the office for your second visit. During this visit, he will check the bridge to make sure that it fits in both naturally and comfortably. If it does, he will use a special dental cement to secure the bridge permanently in place. If it doesn’t fit properly the first time, it will be sent back for adjustments.

Why get a bridge?

Dental bridges have numerous benefits:
•  You can eat all of your favorite foods again, and you can chew properly, which helps your overall nutrition
•  You can speak properly, and be understood
•  Bridges prevent your natural teeth from shifting around in your mouth
•  Your bite stays evenly distributed, which prevents uneven wear and other oral health issues such as TMJ problems
•  Your beautiful smile is restored, as the bridge blends completely in with the rest of your teeth
•  You get your confidence back

Taking Care of Your Bridge

Your bridge does not require any special attention outside of your normal oral hygiene routine. While it cannot experience decay, the bridge can still collect plaque and bacteria, which can cause decay and gum disease on your natural teeth. Therefore, you should continue to brush your teeth at least twice a day and floss daily. Attending regular checkups is recommended as well, as Dr. Todd Jorgenson can check on the condition of both your natural teeth and your bridge, and address any issues if they arise. You should avoid chewing on anything exceptionally hard, such as ice or your fingernails, as these habits can cause damage. If you take care of your bridge, and your teeth, you can help to ensure that your bridge lasts you many years.

If you are missing one or more teeth, don’t wait. Contact the East Valley Implant & Periodontal Center today at (480) 376-2848 to schedule your consultation and learn if dental bridges are the right solution for you!
